Fortune is a fickle thing.

 

I'm going to use a photograph. I do not know the name of the cookie and I didn't get its permission. 

 

I don't know why I connect fortune cookies with January 1, but I do.

If you've read here you've seen it before- such a cultural statement it is. (our culture)

So I'm breaking out my large box of them from World Market to share the fortunes I find, and thoughts I randomly associate. My blog is about that as much as anything else.

Random thoughts.

I'm also digesting pork, mushroom rigatoni, salad and black-eyed peas we just had for dinner.

Our traditional New Year's Day.

It's kind of disconcertingly uncomfortable.

Ok cookie wisdom:

I remember a phrase something, something, something where-ever you are going there you are. 

I need to set a few goals for the year.

I know I'll be drawing or trying to do so this year.

Looking forward to walking if I can.

Perhaps with such a fortune I ought to aim a bit higher and set up some kind of for-profit.

Maybe try to take over a public school.

Since a hotel seems to be about two hundred a night I'm hoping that travel is financed in a way addressed by the next fortune. Also this is having a three Kings kind of feel.

Also I'm totally asking that this not be about finding a really great deal on glue sticks.

I suppose asking for a set of good luggage for the first time in my life might be understandable given this news. No matter what it seems like it always entails having to get something. I've got to put that into my resolutions. stop with the getting.

The luggage is out then.
The most amazing thing I got for Christmas was a small wrapped wire tree that perhaps cost 50 cents from the child in my room who needs me the most. It was sparkly and wrapped with a lot, a lot of tape. Precious beyond words.

This year your highest priority will be your family.

And to those I love, you can't know how much that love for you sustains me.

Investigate new possibilities with friends. Now is the time!

I've had wonderful friends all my life. In three cases these were people I gave a lot of care and love to and refused to hear and read the signals. In all three cases I got hurt. This is the time.

Now is when, where is today.

I'll definitely be doing investigation.

All too often in teaching this is not a part of what you experience. It's been a very long time frankly. So thank you fortune cookie. I'll look forward to that and try to do the same for others.

What with the miracle, travel and financial boons I guess we are piling on!

I'm considering making a cheesecake crust from fortune cookies.

Ok. This starts to make me realize at least this box of fortune has a kind of one note. A good note though. One time at my school children got fortune cookies with inappropriate fortunes. I kept some. This day was a rather nice one as I recall. Not one easy to pull up from my memory but, yes, it did happen. I should check all my notes. They were funny, "in bed", stuff like that.

Sophia, my daughter, prefers fortunes to statements. She doesn't think it's fair to get ones that say "You are likable." She will just look up and say, "What kind of fortune is that?" 

If I were manufacturing them I'd throw in these:

"Everything changes, give it a few more days."

"When in doubt watch French films."

"If you know she's a drama queen, back stabber, untruthful, skilled in the art of artfully retelling the history over and over and over again (we are talking telling you the same thing the exact same way thousands of times)  to appear without sin-then explain why you are driving her to her car place?"

"Draw, paint, read, and avoid those that don't."

"Put love out there, it can rebound, but it might just sink in and do some good."

You can see why I'm not running a fortune cookie factory.
