Hey, went to Steely Dan last night as my birthday present.
I've loved them since about 1974 or so.
Or so my mush brain recalls. I'd show pictures or video but you aren't supposed to make them. And altho I saw everyone on iphones doing that, I sat with my broken phone just enjoying the music immensely. We haven't been to the Bowl in Santa Barbara for awhile cause of my back surgery and they made it nicer, I griped about the seats and Jack did something to make us closer. I shouldn't have complained-seats up high there are really nice. I like to sit anywhere. But the climb up, yikes I gotta walk more.
So Jack missed the first song. He was taking a call about an interview. I thought maybe he got lost. Aja was played really early on, and it still remains the song I love the most. To get to hear that is like I feel about going to see Al Jarreau. I am exactly 100% in a place I want to be.
I really heard every song that I ever loved of theirs.
I just read a thing about them in Wiki, it said something about not writing a love song, cripes to me their music is what a love song is. I suppose I'm a bit jaded. But there music was love song for me. This was a love song for me.
Funny but every song is.
What Steve Gadd did on this Aja tune...man i still like to hear him, anyway the concert had a wonderful drummer, great brass. I enjoyed my birthday present. I could go again, and I might just go buy tickets at the Greek if they are still on-line and not sold out.
Jack wants to go see Dylan though, clearly need to get those bought cause he's at the Bowl in like two weeks.
We had dinner at the Chase grill. I had lobster picatta. I like lobster. It was fantastic, but we only eat at the Chase and I've come to feel about it like being in my second skin. Good Italian food. I had two margaritas which is about all the drinking I've done in ten years. They asked me what tequilla to use. What would you say? For Steely Dan?
As a result I got to the concert hoping not to notice a walk that always winds me. You know bad form to get a heart attack. It was cool-Jack took his call and missed it opening. But got back and enjoyed the show with me.
They were great and played every song I might be looking to hear. The lights were cool, the experience was cool. I'm old, we are old, music was great.
Took a call from my younger daughter-she had a job interview so I sat thinking about possibilities. Doors opening.
Amid the songs I listened to over a life. When I've been sick I listened to their music to feel myself again.
Thanks for a great show.
