I'm attending this on Saturday with my husband, and maybe a daughter.
It would be great to think that others in my area might be attending.
Healthy children need to be inventing, making, visualizing, and it's far from trivial what turning a back on this does to a child. I'm rededicating to arts education. I'm hoping for fresh perspectives from those with degrees and training. It's rare I can find conversations with other MFA's or those with arts certifications that have art ed training in my work-very rare. How cool to find this.
Oxnard symposium to bring teaching, arts together » Ventura County Star
Interesting commentary in the linked article. Indeed we as society need math and science, but we also need understanding in the arts and humanities. I worked with engineers for entire adult life and they had a very good understanding of math and science but I noticed that many were subject to the same foibles in political and social thinking that other people are...but because they were intelligent and good at math and science, they felt their opinions superior. The arts and humanities often teaches us some humility. I hope the symposium produce some concrete results.
