They've Got A Name For the Winners in the World
Throw a kiss and say goodbye.
I just read an amazing letter in an older newspaper from a teacher at my school.
Wow.
Interesting to advocate to the newspaper...oh, wait.
I was five people from the end of the Santa to the Sea Race. And it was honestly the best I had.
My daughter kept me going.
I'm not too down about it. I got a super cute medal for doing it.
It was, from my point of view, a tremendous example of a community coming together for each other.
In Oxnard, CA this race is about collecting toys for children. I think your fee for entrance as well as the toy you bring get distributed to local families. Since I was walking slowly I saw the trucks gathering the toys. That looked great. We donated for the whole family since all of us ran but my camera I left home. So...it'll just be word of mouth. I hope this 5th Annual race was a good experience for others-it surely looked like people turned out to have a good time in the spirit of giving. Little self referential story. I called Jack at work about the toys, last week, when I was going to Target. It's kind of fun to get toys. He said, "Ten dollar maximum per toy." Well ten dollar toys aren't too terrific so I averaged maybe fourteen feeling like I didn't want to break the rules. Well the rules were ten dollar MINIMUM. And that made me feel like H, E, double sticks.
So Sophia said happily as I complained endlessly Sunday about this, "Well, yeah, like we don't want to overspend on the Homeless Kids Mom." Thank goodness my kids can process.
Next time I'm just getting the toys that look awesome to me.
I promise that!
I'm going to go listen to Steely Dan.
I expect I'll be doing that for many, many, many more months.
Many more.
Many, many more.
Reading the newspaper article, I came across a photo collection of the Santa To The Sea Race. It was a wonderful thing for you and your family to participate.
